Ithaca, N.Y. – Three Cornell players tallied double-digit kills Saturday night at Cornell as the Big Red topped Brown volleyball, 3-1 (13-25, 20-25, 27-25, 20-25). For the third-straight match sophomore outside hitter Amanda Nickel (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) tallied 10-plus kills, leading the way for the Bears with 11.
Cornell (4-10, 1-2) came out strong in the first two sets before Brown (3-9, 0-3) was able to go point-for-point with the Big Red in the third, ultimately winning 27-25. In the end Cornell found its way past the Bears, taking the fourth set for the victory.
Big Red hitter Kelly Marble led all players with 20 kills and a trio of Big Red hitters that each posted 10-plus kills.
Brown posted more digs in the match than Cornell as sophomore libero Kathryn Conner (Newport Beach, Calif.) posted a match-high 17. It was the Big Red however than owned much of the net, out-blocking the Bears 10-3.
Both setters for Bruno posted double-doubles with junior Alexandra Rieckhoff (Laguna Beach, Calif.) totaling 24 assists and 14 digs, and freshman Rachele Killian (Laguna Beach, Calif.) posting 14 assists and 10 digs.
Brown returns to the court on Wednesday, October 3, with a home matchup versus instate rival URI at 7 p.m.
