Brown Falls in Season Finale at Harvard
Cambridge, Mass. – It was all Harvard on Saturday night as they topped Brown in four sets at the Malkin Athletic Center. Senior co-captain played her final game in a Bears uniform and posted match-high 24 digs.
Brown (6-19, 2-12 Ivy League) took the first set, 25-19, after leading from beginning to end. The second set was a tightly contested affair as no more than three points separated the two squads through its entirety. Brown appeared to have gained the advantage late, taking a 20-17 lead after a Taylor Bantle (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) kill. However, Harvard scored five of the next seven points, to even the score at 22. The teams continued to swap points to put the score at 24-24, but the Crimson scored three of the next four points to close out the set at 27-25 and even match at one.
It was Harvard that gained the early advantage in the third set as back-to-back kills from Taylor Docter and Sandra Lynne Fryhofer gave the Crimson a 9-6 lead. The Crimson kept the pressure on with a 9-4 run to extend the lead to 19-10. The closest the Bears got to evening the score was five points as the Crimson put away its second set of the contest, 25-16, to go up 2-1.
The Crimson turned up the intensity with the score tied at 13 in the fourth set, going on a 12-6 run to secure the victory, 25-19. Docter scored five points during the stretch, aiding Harvard in its 12th victory of the year.
