PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman setter Alexandra Rieckhoff (Laguna Beach, Calif.) guided the Bears to a 2-2 performance at the Brown Invitational last week, and for her efforts she earned her first Ivy League Rookie of the Week honor as announced by the conference office. The freshman setter racked up 138 assists (9.82 per set) on the weekend, 42 coming in a thrilling five set loss to Rhode Island.
Rieckhoff had 35 assists in each of the Bears' wins – straight sets victories over Holy Cross and Central Connecticut State – and finished off the weekend with 26 assists in a 3-0 loss to Boston College. She recorded double-doubles in the weekend's first two matches, adding 15 and 10 digs, respectively, averaging 2.50 digs per set for the tournament. Rieckhoff also added six service aces and four blocks, and was named to the all-tournament team, the second time this season she has achieved that honor.
Sophomore Katrina Post (Pasadena, Calif.) was selected to the weekly honor roll after she racked up 35 kills and 37 digs in four games at the Brown Invitational last weekend. The sophomore had a double-double with 14 kills and 13 digs against CCSU all coming in just three sets. She also boasted a .414 attack percentage against the Blue Devils.
The Bears return to the court this Saturday, Sept. 25th when they travel to Stony Brook for a 1 p.m. contest. Brown returns home to the Pizzitola Center on Oct. 1 in the Ivy League opener against Yale.
