Post's 11 Kills Leads Brown Sweep of Cornell
Rookie Katrina Post notched a team-high 11 kills on Friday evening, helping the Brown volleyball team come away with an emphatic 3-0 sweep of the Cornell Big Red. Bruno had the offense clicking on all cylinders, finishing with a sparkling .291 team attack percentage. With the win, the Bears improve to 6-17 on the season, and 2-10 in league play, while Cornell falls to 6-18 overall and 3-10 against Ivy League opponents.
The first set started off with fairly even play, as the teams found themselves deadlocked at eight apiece early. However, Brown went on a quick 4-0 run, giving themselves enough of a cushion to pick up the opening win. Despite Cornell's comeback attempt, the Big Red were never able to get entirely back in the game, and the Bears came away with a 25-18 win.
Brown used a similar strategy in the second set, gaining the early advantage at 11-7 and holding on for a matching 25-18 victory, opening up a 2-0 match lead. The third set was another decisive win for the Bears. After Cornell pulled to within 16-15 and appeared ready to climb back into the match, Brown responded with a 9-2 run to finish off the overmatched Big Red and take a 25-17 win. In the final set, the Bears hit an impressive .319 while holding Cornell to just a .188 team attack percentage.
Junior Brianna Williamson also had a big day, falling just shy of a double-double with 10 kills and nine digs, while sophomore setter Annika Gliottone had a match-high 24 assists to go with 10 digs. Rookie libero Carly Cotton also had a match-high 19 digs, helping Brown hold Cornell to just .150 hitting for the match.
The Bears will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they host the Columbia Lions at 4:00 p.m. at the Pizzitola Center.
