Providence, R.I. - Brown lost a tough match against Ivy League co-leader Penn on Friday night, as the Quakers took a 3-0 decision at the Pizzitola Center. Junior Brianna Williamson (Cincinnati, OH) led the way for Bruno, notching a team-high nine kills to go with 10 defensive digs, while rookie Carly Cotton added 16 digs. With the loss, Brown falls to 4-9 overall and 0-2 in Ivy League play, while Penn improves to 11-4 on the season, with a 2-0 league mark.
Brown came out playing well in the first set, taking an early 5-1 lead over the Quakers. However, after a quick timeout, Penn regrouped and came storming back, tying the game at five apiece before going on to a 25-17 win, taking the initial 1-0 set lead. In the second, the action was once again back-and-forth throughout much of the set, but the Quakers came on strong for a second time, pulling away late for a 25-20 victory. Continuing to ride their momentum, Penn played an extremely strong third set, pulling out a 25-9 win to take the match by a margin of 3-0.
Freshman Christina Berry (Newport Beach, CA) also played a strong match, recording seven kills on .148 hitting, and adding six digs, while sophomore Spencer McAndrews (Los Angeles, CA) added a team-high 18 assists and three blocks.
The Bears will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they host the Princeton Tigers at 4:00 p.m.
