The NCAA Northeast Regional Meet was held today at Van Cortlandt Park, in New York. Freshman Ariel Wright (Oakland, CA) and junior Smita Gupta (Tulsa, OK) both placed amongst the top 25 runners, earning All-Region honors. As a team, the Bears placed 8th in a field of 34 teams. With four other Ivies in the mix, Brown surpassed Harvard, who finished 14th.
Wright and Gupta finished the six-kilometer race with just 4 seconds separating them, placing 21st (22:01) and 22nd (22:04), respectively. Sophomore Lindsay Kahn (Port Jefferson, NY) was next for the Bears in 58th place, with a 22:59 effort.
Freshman Brooke Giuffre (Carlsbad, CA) took the fourth position for Brown in 65th place. Giuffre crossed the line in 23:12. Junior Becky Crossin (Annandale, NJ) filled the remaining scoring place for the women in 78th, with a 23:27 run.
This meet concludes the 2006 cross country season for the Bears. Their 2006-2007 indoor track season will kick off at home with the Alden Invitational on December 2. The meet will be held at the Olney-Margolis Athletic Center.
