On Friday the Brown women's cross country team will compete in the annual Ivy League Heptagonal Championship beginning at 10:30 a.m. in Van Cortlandt Park, NY. The team has been gearing up for the Heptagonal Championships all season. Not only because it is the Ivy League Championship, but because it is the first meet of the year that the Bears will be running at full strength.
After a season filled with sick days and injuries, the Brown team has pulled it together for the biggest meet of the season. "I don't know if having the full squad running will move the women up in the race but it will definitely strengthen the pack," said Coach Rick Wemple.
Wemple believes the Bears are capable of finishing in third place overall and no worse than fourth. "We've already demonstrated in head-to-head competition that we can beat Dartmouth, Harvard and Cornell," Wemple said. "We can finish third or fourth as long as we run what we are capable of."
Wemple says the key to the Bears' success will be pack running and feeding off of each other. He attributes Brown's best meets this season to running as a pack.
