Providence, RI - Anna Willard (Ann Arbor, MI), a 2006 graduate of Brown, will be competing for the United States in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2007 IAAF World Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Osaka, Japan. Team USA will look to continue its role as the world's No. 1 track and field team at the World Championships from Aug. 25-Sept.2.
"Anna is the most successful women's distance runner in the history of the Brown University cross country and track & field program," said Brown Head Coach Craig Lake. "The improvements she has made over the last two years are incredible."
A two-time All-American in track while at Brown, Willard is the school record holder in the outdoor 800m, 3000m steeplechase and the 5000m, and the indoor school record holder in the 1000m. She was also a part of the school record holding 4x800m and distance medley relay teams for both indoor and outdoor track. Additionally, Willard captained the 2005 women's cross country team and led them to their highest finish at the Heptagonal Championships in four years.
"Anna is already a legend in our program and we wish her nothing but the best," said Lake. "She had the third-fastest steeplechase time in the nation, and also has a great chance to make the 2008 Olympic Team as well."
