June 3, 2004

The United States Track Coaches Association announced the Mondo Outdoor District Athletes and Coaches of the Year for NCAA Division I and Brown Head Coach Robert Johnson was selected as the Northeast Region Women's Coach of the Year.

Johnson led the Bears to a second place finish at the Outdoor Heptagonal Championships this season, taking wins in the 100-meter dash, 800 meters, 4x800-meter relay, triple jump and javelin. Brown also had four members of the women's squad qualify for the NCAA Regionals. Also highlighting the Bears' season was the 4x800-meter relay team's win at the Penn Relays in April.

Johnson is in his fourteenth year at Brown, serving as the Head Coach for both the men's and women's teams for the past three years. His women's team won the indoor and Outdoor Heptagonal Titles in 2001. Johnson primarily works with the sprinters, hurdlers and relay squads while overseeing all aspects of the Brown track and field program.

A star on the track, Johnson earned NAIA All-American status nine times in both the indoor and outdoor high hurdles while at Wayland Baptist University.
