Brown senior Brittany Grovey (Hobbs, NM) has been named the Northeast Region Field Athlete of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Grovey defended her triple jump title with a winning leap of 13.22m/43'4 1/2" at the Ivy League Indoor Heptagonal Championship, more than two feet ahead of her nearest competitor.
Grovey broke her own school record by nearly two feet with that performance, and set a new meet record. The old record had stood for 17 years. Grovey's mark puts her seventh in the nation in the triple jump. She also placed third in the long jump at Heps as well.
Grovey, despite a current leg injury, will be competing in the triple jump at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend in Arkansas.
