Women Harriers Compete at Regionals

New York, New York-- The women's cross country team competed on November 13, 2004 at Van Cortlandt Park in New York at the NCAA Northeast Regional. The team tied with the University of Connecticut for 11th place. Sophomore Michol Monaghan (Uniontown, PA) had a breakthrough race for the Bears, finishing first on the team and in 45th place overall with a time of 22:26.8 over the 6K course. Freshman Smita Gupta (Tulsa, OK) also ran well, finishing fourth for Brown and 86th overall, with a time of 23:09.2.
Junior Anya Davidson (Brunswick, ME) returned to old form after sickness by placing 70th with a time of 22:51.2. Senior captain Julie Komosinski (San Diego, CA) also turned in a solid performance in the final cross country race of her collegiate career. Komosinski placed 64th with a time of 22:46.3. Junior Anna Willard (Greenwood, ME) rounded out the scoring for Brown. Senior Emma Sarro (Chatham, NY) finished 6th for Brown with a time of 23:42.6. In the JV race, freshman Becky Crossin (Annandale, NJ) finished 19th overall with a time of 23:25.7. Also in the JV race, sophomore Madeleine Marecki (Morris, CT) set a new personal record by more than one minute for the Van Cortlandt Park course with a time of 23:43.2, good for 24th place.
The regional meet concludes cross country competition for the women for the 2004 season. The team now looks forward to the indoor track season, which begins on December 4 at the Alden Invitational on Brown's home track.
