Albany, NY - Senior Smita Gupta (Tulsa, OK) and sophomore Ariel Wright (Oakland, CA) helped the Brown women's cross county team to a second place finish at the 41st annual University of Albany Cross Country Invitational on Saturday. Out of the 28 competing squads, Brown finished in second with 52 points, just 10 points shy of first-place Harvard. Following behind was Colgate in third (89), UMass (141) in fourth, and Binghampton (172) in fifth.
Gupta finished in second place in the 5,000-meter race with a 17:22.2, and Wright finished right behind with a 17:31.1 for third. Brown's next finishers were freshmen Lauren Pischel (La Jolla, CA) in 11th with a 17:56.7, Caitlin Clark (Granite Bay, CA) in 15th with an 18:11.5, and Megan Fitzpatrick (Hopewell Valley, NJ) in 21st with an 18:22.5. Rounding out the Bears' finishers were freshman Kesley Ramsey (Franklin Lakes, NJ) with an 18:26.0 and Cara Harrison (Gaithersburg, MD) with a 18:47.9.
The Bears will compete at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships on Friday, Oct. 26, at Van Cortlandt Park.
