Franklin Park, MA - The Brown women's cross country team placed third at the 2002 New England Championships out of 42 teams on Friday. The Bears finished with 115 points on the day, behind Boston College, which won the title with 70 points and Williams College with 97 points. Rounding out the top five was Dartmouth with 160 points and Middlebury with 161 points. Brown also won the JV race, placing the top three runners.
Sophomore Meredith Crocker (South Kingstown, RI) finished first for Brown and seventh overall with a time of 17:42. Senior Rosie Woodford (South Kingstown, RI) placed 17th overall and second for Brown with a time of 18:08. Freshman Nora Sullivan (Cambridge, MA) placed 19th overall and third for Brown with a time of 18:09. Freshman Anna Willard (Greenwood, ME) finished 34th overall with a time of 18:27 and sophomore Julie Komosinski (San Deigo, CA) finished 39th overall with a time of 18:31. Also running varsity for the Bears were freshman Annie Hatch (Tacoma,WA) and junior Kristin Ware (Indianapolis, IN).
Brown won the JV race, placing the top three runners. Junior Caci Cambruzzi (Cincinnati, OH) finished first overall with a time of 18:40. Sophomore Rachal Kitson (Chapel Hill, NC) finished second with a time of 18:48 and freshman Anya Davidson (Brunswick, ME) placed third with a time of 18:49. Rounding out the top five for Brown was freshman Jean Coleman (Wantagh, NY) with a time of 19:15 and sophomore Emma Sarro (Chatham, NY) with a time of 19:18. Also in the top seven were junior Katherine Kosub (San Antonio, TX)and freshman Kelly Powell (East Patchogue, NY).
Brown continues competition on Friday Nov. 1 at the Heptagonal Championships in Van Cortlandt Park, NY.
