This weekend the women's track and field team competed in their final home meet, the Brown Springtime Invitational. It was a good day on the field as the Bears swept the pole vault, with four Brown athletes filling the top three spots.
Sophomore Kristen Olds (Painesville, OH) led the pack of Brown pole vaulters, winning the event in 11-05.75. Junior Tiffany Chang (Lafayette, CA) placed second, also jumping 11-05.75. Freshman Cassandra Wong (Ridgewood, NJ) and junior Keely Marsh (Annandale, NJ) shared third place, both jumping 10-11.75.
In the throws, freshman Danielle Grunloh (Effingham, IL) placed second in the shot put with a 41-03.25 throw, and third in the discus with a 144-10 throw. Junior Sarah Groothuis (Aurora, NE) placed fourth in the discus in 138-01. Sophomore Molly Hawksley (Rumford, RI) took third in the hammer throw in 154-09, followed by sophomore Samantha Kuo (San Mateo, CA) in fourth in 150-05.
On the track, junior Akilah King (Medford, MA) and senior Lauren Hale (Warren, RI) took second and third in the 100 meter dash in 12.10 and 12.48, respectively. Sophomore Dianna Anderson (Verona, NJ) placed third in the 100 meter hurdles in 15.02.
This meet was the Bears' last tune-up competition before the Heptagonal Championships in Princeton next weekend. The meet will be hosted by Princeton University and competition will begin on Saturday, May 5.
