The Bears hosted their first home meet of the spring season this weekend, bringing competition from local and Ivy League schools to Brown. Seniors Naja Ferjan (Ljubljana, Slovenia) and Madeleine Marecki (Morris, CT) each won their respective races. A significant portion of the sprint squad was not present, as they were participating in a meet at the University of Tennessee.
Senior Naja Ferjan won the 800 meter run in 2:10.82 with an impressive two second lead. Following Ferjan was freshman Jenna Ridgway (Santa Barbara, CA) in fourth in 2:14.82. Prior to running the 800, Ridgway placed second in the mile with a 4:53.25 run. Junior Smita Gupta (Tulsa, OK) finished the mile in 5:03.73, good for fourth place.
Senior Madeline Marecki lead the 3,000 meter run, and won the event in 10:32.94. Junior Lena Groeger (Cambridge, MA) was next to finish, coming in second with a 10:36.19 run. Freshman Colleen Brogan (Haddonfield, NJ) placed fourth in 10:54.91.
The Bears 1600 meter relay team placed second with a 4:03.00 run.
In the field, sophomore Samantha Kuo (San Mateo, CA) placed fourth in the hammer throw with a 143-01 effort. Junior Tiffany Chang (Lafayette, CA) placed second in the pole vault with a 11-05.75 jump. Freshman Cassandra Wong (Ridgewood, NJ) and junior Keely Marsh (Annandale, NJ) tied for third, each jumping 10-11.75.
The Bears will be competing next at the UCONN Husky Springs Invitational on April 21 in Storrs, CT.
