Women's Track Opens Spring Season At Florida Relays; Tharp Qualifies For NCAA Regionals

Gainesville, FL - The Brown women's track team opened the spring season at the Florida Relays on Mar. 27-30. Senior Keely Tharp (Roberts, WI) led the charge by winning her section of the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 61.25. She placed 11th overall out of 55 athletes, and Tharp's time qualifies her for the NCAA Regional meet at the end of May.

Sophomore Meredith Crocker (Wakefield, RI) opened with a successful debut in the 5k, running 17:32.32. Freshman Rachel Kitson (Chapel Hill, NC) ran 17:56.75, only 10 seconds shy of her personal best.

Junior Kate Cushing (Cranston, RI) ran 2:14.06 in the open 800 to finish third in her section and 12th overall out of 46 athletes. Cushing also anchored the 4x1500 relay squad to a 4:42.0 second placed finish. Freshman Anna Willard (Greenwood, ME) led off in 4:44.8 and was followed by junior Caci Cambruzzi (Cincinnati, OH) and freshman Annie Hatch (Tacoma, WA) who both ran 4:47.4. The team's final time of 19:01.99 is the third best in Brown history.

Freshman Brittany Grovey (Hobbs, NM) competed in the Invitational triple jump. Her performance of 37'11.25" ranks her fourth all-time for Brown. Cushing ran a third event for the weekend, this time anchoring the 4x800 relay to a fourth place finish of 9:05.49. Hatch led off, followed by Willard, and junior Katherine Kosub (San Antonio, TX) ran the third leg. Kosub ran the anchor leg of the 4x400 meter relay to help the team finish sixth in its section.

Brown continues action on Saturday April 5 in a tri-meet with Harvard and host Dartmouth.
