Boston, MA- A sparse number of athletes took to the track or field to compete for the Bears at ECACs on Friday, March 5. Seniors Caci Cambruzzi (Cincinnati, OH) and Katherine Kosub (San Antonio, TX) ran in the mile, while freshman Naja Ferjan (Ljubljan, Slovenia) ran the 500m, and junior Jill Lynch (Racine, WI) threw the shot put.
In the mile run, a slower early pace benefitted Kosub, as she has the ability to run negative splits. She recorded a personal best in her heat of the mile with a time of 4:55.76. In the 500, Ferjan was surprised in the trials by a quick pace from the outset, but she went with the field and ran 1:14.73 to qualify for the finals. Racing strategy was adjusted for the final to go out relaxed. Ferjan was one second slower at the 200, 300, and 400 mark than she was during the trials but ran two seconds faster over the last 100m, resulting in a second faster overall time of 1:13.70. Ferjan's time in the finals is good for second on Brown's all-time indoor list.
Brown's sole competitor on the field was Lynch. She showed consistency in throwing 43' again and has refound her confidence.
The women's track and field team's next meet will be outdoors at the Raleigh Relays on March 26. The team will travel to North Carolina to compete in the Raleigh Relays and then at the Duke Invitational the following weekend.
