Bears' Compete at USATF-NE Championships

Cambridge, MA-- The women's track & field team competed in USATF's New England Championships on Sunday, February 19. Many of Brown's athletes used the race as a tune-up before next weekend's Heptagonal Championships. Highlighting the meet for the Bears were wins in the shot put, pole vault and 800m.

Sophomore Chelsea McCarron (Georgetown, MA) won the shot put with a put of 12.32m. Freshman Samantha Kuo (San Mateo, CA) was third (11.56m).

Sophomore Tiffany Chang (Lafayette, CA) won the pole vault in 3.65m while senior Janea Russ (El Cajon, CA) tied for third place (3.35m).

Senior Anna Willard (Greenwood, ME) won the 800m with a time of 2:10.07. Junior Michol Monaghan (Uniontown, PA) was third in the mile (5:08.97).

Junior Lauren Hale (Warren, RI) placed second in the 60m with a time of 7.97. Hale was also second in the 200m, leading the way to three Bears placing in the top five in that event.

Finally, senior co-captain Brittany Grovey (Hobbs, NM) was second in the triple jump (13.20m).

The Bears' mile relay team placed second in a close finish behind the Greater Boston team.

The track & field team will next compete at the Heptagonal Championships on February 25 and 26 in Hanover, NH, hosted by Dartmouth.
