Individuals Shine at Valentine Invitational

Boston, MA - Junior Tiffany Chang (Laffayette, CA) and sophomore Kristen Olds (Painesville, OH) tied for second place in the pole vault, highlighting the St. Valentine's Invitational for the Brown track and field squad. The meet was hosted by Boston University. This was the last meet for many of the Bears, who will be resting next weekend before the Heptagonal Championships just two weeks away.

On the track, freshman Thelma Breezeatl (Manassas, VA) finished fifth in the 55 meter dash in 7.15. Sophomore Nicole Burns (Newburgh, NY) placed eight in the 200 in 24.71. Freshman Brooke Giuffre (Carlsbad, CA) finished twelfth in the mile with a 4:57 run. Senior Naja Ferjan (Ljubljana, Slovenia) took fifth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:10.44. Junior Smita Gupta (Tulsa, OK) placed seventh in the 3,000 meter run with a 9:36.04 effort.

In the relays, Brown took fourth in the 1,600 meter relay. The Bears finished the race in 3:51.09, less than two seconds behind Ivy competitor Columbia.

Olds and Chang's second place finishes in the pole vault consisted of them both jumping 11-02.25. Freshman Cassandra Wong (Ridgewood, NJ) also jumped this height, but due to number of attempts, placed sixth. Junior Keely Marsh (Annandale, NJ) placed seventh in the event with a 10-08.25 jump. In the shot put, freshman Danielle Grunloh (Effingham, IL) earned third place with a 42-04.25 throw. Freshman Jenna Silver (Elmhurst, IL) followed in thirteenth with a 40-02.25 throw.

Some of the Bears will compete again on February 18th at the USATF New England Championships in Boston, Massachusetts, while others will take the weekend off to prepare for the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships on February 24th and 25th.
