Kingston, RI - The women's track team competed today at the Go Rhody Invitational hosted by the University of Rhode Island. The Bears took second in the team competition, tallying 144.67 points to finish behind the University of Connecticut (201.50).
Junior Brittany Grovey (Hobbs, NM) captured ten points for Brown with her win in the triple jump. She had a top mark of 39'03". Senior Dominique Bosa-Edwards (Las Vegas, NV) jumped 37'01" in the event to give the Bears a 1-2 finish.
In the long jump, senior Ashley Wall (Ellicott City, MD) took third with a jump of 17'7.5". The Bears tallied 18.5 points in the long jump by taking second, third, and fourth places. Junior Janea Russ (El Cajon, CA) led the charge, taking second with a clearance of 11'3.75". The freshman duo of Tiffany Chang (LaFayette, CA) and Keely Marsh (Annandale, NJ) captured third and fourth, respectively, with a shared height of 10'10".
The Bears took runner-up honors in a wide range of other events as well. In the distances, sophomore Michol Monaghan (Uniontown, PA) turned in a second place performance in the 3,000 meter run to earn 8 points. She clocked 10:09.59 to set a personal best by over 30 seconds. Junior Anna Willard (Greenwood, ME) debuted for the 2005 season, taking second in the mile with a time of 5:09.05. Senior co-captain Jill Lynch (Racine, WI) took second in her specialty, the shot put with a distance of 43'03". Senior Fara Kitton (Bellmore, NY) raced to 8.34 in the 55-meter hurdles, also good for the runner-up spot. The 4x400 meter relay was second in 3:58.26.
The Bears will return to action on Saturday, January 29. They will travel to Cambridge, MA to take on Harvard and Cornell.
