Women's Track Team Takes Second at Sorlein Meet
Freshman Thelma Breezeatl (Manassas, VA) brought home two first-place finishes for the Brown women's track team at the Sorlein Memorial Indoor Classic held at the University of Rhode Island on Saturday. She helped the Bears bring home a total of eight first-place finishes and a second-place finish as a team, with a total of 181 points.

The sprinting events, which were highlighted by Breezeatl's wins in the 55-meter dash (7.16) and the 200 (25.95), also saw good finishes by sophomore Nicole Burns (Newburg, NY), who earned first place in the 500 with a 1:16:32. Taking second was freshman Jasmine Chukwueke (San Diego, CA) in the 400 with a 59.72.

Senior Naja Ferjan (Ljublgana, Slovenia) finished first in the 1,000 with a 2:50.43, followed by junior Smita Gupta (Tulsa, OK) in second with a 2:57.23. Freshman Emily Bourdeau (Longmeadow, Slovenia) also had a first place finish, winning the 800 in 2:17.56. Ferjan's time in the 1,000 broke two-time All-American, Anna Willard's '06 school record, making Ferjan the fastest 1000-meter runner in Brown history.

In the relays, Brown took first in the 1,600 with senior Natasha Barrett (Miami, FL), junior Akilah King (Medford, MA), Burns, and Chukwueke crossing the finish line in 3:56.40. The Bears also took second in the 3,200 with a 9:25.67.

The field events were decorated with first, second, and third place finishes in the pole vault. Junior Keely Marsh (Annandale, NJ) finished first with a 3.35-meter jump, followed by freshman Cassie Wong with a 3.20 (Ridgewood, NJ) and senior Allison Brager (Youngstown, OH) with a 3.05.

The shot put saw similar success, with the women taking first, second, and fifth places, respectively. Freshman Alex Hartley (Spring, TX) garnered first place with a throw of 12.71 meters, and freshman Danielle Grunloh (Effingham, IL) followed behind throwing 12.63 meters.

The Bears will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 27, when they travel to Cambridge to take on Harvard and Cornell.
