Women's Track & Field Competes at URI Sorlein Invitational

Kingston, RI - The Brown women's track & field team had a strong showing during the URI Sorlein Track & Field Invitational in Kingston over the weekend. Leading the Bears was sophomore Samantha Adelberg (Washington, DC), sophomore Brynn Smith (Saco, ME) and senior Nicole Burns (Newburgh, NY), who all earned titles in their respective events.
Burns turned in a time of 1:15.28 in the 500-meter dash to earn first place, while sophomore Lucy Higgins followed close behind with a 1:18.24 for third. Adelberg posted a time a 2:56.06 to win the 1,000-meter run title, while freshman Emily Mepham (McLean, VA) ran a 2:59.77 for third place, sophomore Kesley Ramsey (Franklin Lakes, NJ) finished in fifth (3:01.74) and freshman Galia Dietz (Richland, WA) followed right behind in sixth (3:05.37).
Junior Thelma Breezeatl (Manassas, VA) placed second in the 400-meter dash with a solid time of 59.72, and freshman Susan Scavone placed fourth in the 200m dash with a 26.70. Brown "B" finished second in the 4x400m relay with a 4:04.57 while Brown "A" finished right behind with a 4:04.70.
In the field events, sophomore Rachel Biblo (Thiensville, WI) placed second in the long jump with a 17-03.50, trailing Wheaton's Mickey Jusme first-place jump of 18-05.00. Biblo also secured second place in the triple jump, behind Rhode Island's Ananda Fraser (38-07.75). Smith gave a great effort for Brown, turning in a second-place finish in the weight throw (52-00.00) and then earned the shot put title with a throw of 44-08.25. Junior Danielle Grunloh (Effingham, IL) tossed a 44-05.50 in the shot put for second place, while Natasha Smith (Gloucester, MA) came in 11th with a 35-00.
Brown is back in action when it travels to Boston University to compete at the Terrier Classic from Jan. 23-24.
