EUGENE, Ore. – Senior Carly Paul (Fort Collins, Colo.) of the Brown women's track & field team placed 12th in the high jump to earn Second Team All-American honors at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship Saturday at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.
Paul cleared the opening height of 5-8, but then was unable to clear the next progression of 5-10, finishing in a five-way tie for 12th overall in the nation to collect Second Team All-American accolades. Paul was one of 24 competitors in the event after she cleared a personal-best cleared height of 5-10.75 at the East Preliminary, setting a new school record in the process. Paul also competed in the long jump at the East Preliminary and won the Ivy League title in the heptathlon.
Paul wrapped up a standout senior campaign, winning both the Ivy League pentathlon and heptathlon league titles. She was the recipient of the Marjorie Brown Smith Award as Brown's outstanding female varsity athlete of the year and also broke four school records over the course of both track & field seasons.
This is the second All-American finish for Brown track & field this year after the men's distance medley relay team placed ninth at the NCAA Indoor Championship.
Paul is the fourth All-American in as many years for the Brown women's track & field team after Shanelle DeJournett in 2017 (high jump), O'Sha Williams in 2016 (triple jump) and Josie Natrasevschi in 2015 (discus).
