HANOVER, N.H. – The Brown men's and women's track & field teams racked up nine first-place finishes as both squads competed at the Dartmouth Quad-Meet in the first competition of 2018 on Saturday at Leverone Field House.
The women's team captured 125 points to finish second, trailing only host Dartmouth (175), while the men's team posted 97 points to finish behind Dartmouth (130), Maine (128) and Vermont (103).
Nik Zemis (New Philadelphia, Ohio) won the 400 meters as he crossed the finish line in a time of 49.65. Brown captured the top two spots in the 500 meters, as Zack Emrich (North Kingstown, R.I.) and Max Haensel (Raleigh, N.C.) finished in times of 1:04.94 and 1:05.00, respectively.
In the 1,000 meters, Zachary Lanigan (Sydney, Australia) secured a first-place showing as he crossed in a time of 2:28.24.
On the women's side, May Stern (Providence, R.I.) and Gwenyth Winship (Bedford, N.H.) cruised to a one-two finish in the 500 meters with times of 1:16.22 and 1:18.35. Zion Lewis (Canton, Ga.) won the 200 meters in a time of 24.91 and also topped the triple jump with a winning leap of 40-02.00, both best marks in the Ivy League this season.
In the field, junior Jason Katz (Wyckoff, N.Y.) claimed the long jump with a leap of 22-00.25. Owen Russell (Attleboro, Mass.) and Michael Coppolino (Cumberland, R.I.) went one-two in the weight throw with tosses of 65-0.700 and 51-00.75, respectively.
Brown returns to action next Saturday for the Sorlien Memorial Invitational at URI.
