PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown University track & field teams continued the outdoor season as the Bears traveled to the Virginia Challenge, LSU Alumni Gold and George Davis Invitational over the weekend.
Junior Carly Paul (Fort Collins, Colo.) turned in an impressive performance in the heptathlon at the UVA meet, finishing in fourth place with 5,207 points, second all-time in program history behind only Brown Hall of Famer, Lindsay Taylor '01. Paul secured her fourth-place finish with a new personal-best mark by over 400 points.
Mark Buda (Pittsburgh, Pa.) claimed second place in the javelin with a personal-best throw of 214-3, reaching the NCAA Regional qualification mark. Sophomore Owen Russell (Attleboro, Mass.) was eighth in the hammer invitational with a toss of 203-7.
LSU Alumni Gold
Sophomore Jason Katz (Wyckoff, N.Y.) led a group at the LSU meet with a first-place showing in the triple jump invitational at 51-1.75. Senior Taylor Alarcon (Wilmette, Ill.) turned in a sixth-place finish in the event with a leap of 49-9.
Shanelle DeJournett (Knoxville, Tenn.) was third overall in the high jump with a cleared height of 5-07.75.
George Davis Invitational
Calvin Munson (Boulder, Colo.) won the 400 meters in a time of 50.02 and Jordan Ferguson captured the 110-meter hurdles at 15.23 at the UMass Lowell meet.
On the women's side, rookie Shari Rauls (Larchmont, N.Y.) won the 400 meters in a time of 59.10, while fellow freshman Karlly Feng (Temple City, Calif.) claimed the pole vault with a cleared height of 11-1.75.
Brown will take part in the Penn Relays this week before hosting the Brown Springtime Invite on Sunday at Brown Stadium.
