NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Brown men's and women's track & field teams posted six first-place finishes as the Bears competed at the Yale Mark Young Invitational over the weekend.
Sophomore Alexis Van Pernis (Kailua Kona, Hawaii) claimed first place in the 800 meters in a time of 2:14.34, while rookie Emma Sloan (Franklin, Tenn.) also added a top finish in the 1,500 meters at 4:36.45.
In the field, Morayo Akande (Robinson, Ill.) and Jenell Grier-Spratley (Alexandria, Va.) placed first and second, respectively, in the high jump with cleared heights of 5-07.25 and 5-06.00. Sophomore Maxine Offiaeli (South Windsor, Conn.) captured first place in the shot put with a winning toss of 41-11.25.
On the men's side, junior Aaron Comery (Coventry, R.I.) won the shot put with a throw of 54-08.25 and rookie Owen Russell (Attleboro, Mass.) captured the hammer throw at 192-07.
Brown will host the Ocean State Invitational on Saturday at Brown Stadium, before select runners will compete at Providence College Friday evening.
