JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Rookie Josie Natrasevschi (Fort Collins, Colo.) placed fifth overall in the discus to qualify for the NCAA Championship as the Brown men's and women's track & field teams wrapped up three days of competition Saturday at the NCAA East Preliminary at Hodges Stadium.
The preliminary rounds are broken down into two regions, East and West. The top 12 finishers of each region earn a ticket to the NCAA National Championships next month in Eugene, Ore.
On Friday, Natrasevschi was in 19th place going into the final round of the discus and delivered with a big toss of 177-3 to place fifth overall for a spot at the NCAA Championship. Junior Kebbeh Darpolor (Pecos, Texas) also competed in the discus and finished 35th overall with a toss of 153-0.
On the track, rookie Natalie Schudrowitz (Milwaukee, Wis.) finished 14th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in time of 10:02.63, breaking the school record time of 10:06.83 held by Anna Willard '06. In addition, sophomore Lucy Van Kleunen (Philadelphia, Pa.) placed 23rd in the event with a personal-best time of 10:13.20.
On the men's side, senior Jordan Mann (St. Louis, Mo.) was 23rd in the steeplechase at 8:54.16, setting a personal record and just one second shy of the school record, while junior Ryan Kelly (Greenwich, Conn.) competed in the 200 meters.
On Thursday, junior Ned Willig (Phoenixville, Pa.) placed 15th overall in the 1,500 meters in a time of 3:46.19 as the fastest non-qualifer, while senior Alex Stanton (Medfield, Mass.) competed in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.95) and senior Henry Tufnell (Cirencester, England) took part in the 800 meters (1:51.10).
Junior O'Sha Williams (Jamaica, N.Y.) was the team's lone competitor on Saturday and placed 24th overall in the triple jump with a leap of 40-11.50.
Natrasevschi will compete at the NCAA Championship June 10-13 in Eugene, Ore.
