Track & Field Hosts Springtime Open

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Ryan Kelly (Greenwich, Conn.), junior Courtland Clavette (Asheville, N.C.) and senior Victoria Buhr (Cheboygan, Mich.) won two events apiece as the Brown track & field team hosted the Springtime Open on Sunday at Brown Stadium.

Kelly picked up a pair of wins in the 200 and 400 meters, crossing in times of 21.97 and 48.49, respectively.

Junior Reuben Feinman (Menands, N.Y.) captured the 800 meters in a time of 1:54.40, while freshman Martin Martinez (Waukegan, Ill.) won the 3,000 meters at 8:24.23. Junior Hunter Warick (Monument, Colo.) took first in the 110-meter hurdles at 15.49, before senior Brendan Boyle (Mansfield, Mass.) claimed the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:50.22.

Clavette captured a pair of events in the field, winning the shot put at 55-06.25 and the discus at 59-01.00, both at IC4A-qualifying marks.   

In addition, freshman Taylor Alarcon (Wilmette, Ill.) won the triple jump at 47-09.00 and fellow rookie Mark Buda (Pittsburgh, Pa) was victorious in the javelin at 174-09.00.

On the women's side, junior Leah Eickhoff (Hanover, N.H.) won the mile at 5:00.24, and senior Margaret Connelly (Chicago, Ill.) and junior Alex Stanton (Medfield, Mass.) placed first in the 3,000 meters and 400-meter hurdles, respectively, at 9:55.03 and 59.80.

In the field, Buhr won the shot put and the discus in ECAC-qualifying tosses of 47-07.25 and 160-04.00, respectively. In addition, freshman Erin Schaeffer (Franklin, Conn.) claimed the high jump at 5-03.00 and sophomore Rachel Van Metre (Swarthmore, Pa.) won the triple jump at 38-05.00.

The Bears return to action for the Ivy League Championships May 10-11 at Yale University.
