GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kenneth Thompson (Riverdale, N.Y.) placed 19th overall in the triple jump as the Brown track & field team wrapped up the final day of the 2013 NCAA East Preliminary Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, N.C.
Thompson, who placed third in the triple jump at the Ivy League championships, took 19th overall at regionals with a leap of 49-00.75.
On Friday, John Spooney (Northfield, Ohio) clocked in at 21:15 in the first round of the 200 meters to place 28th overall, falling just three spots short of qualifying for the quarterfinals. On Thursday, Spooney placed fourth in his heat and 30th overall in the 100 meters at 10.47. Spooney is the three-time reigning Ivy League champion in the 100 meters and a two-time league champion in the 200 meters.
Also on Thursday, Erik Berg (Seattle, Wash.) finished sixth in his heat and 29th overall in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:48.61, just missing the cut to the quarterfinals by five spots.
In the field, Courtland Clavette (Asheville, N.C.) placed 29th overall in the discus with a toss of 165-08.
The women's team had three qualifiers in the discus, led by Lacey Craker (Baraboo, Wis.), who placed 20th overall with a throw of 157-04. Victoria Buhr (Cheboygan, Mich.), who won the Ivy title in the event at the 2013 league championships, placed 36th at 145-10, while freshman Kebbeh Darpolor (Pecos, Texas) also participated in the event to cap an impressive rookie campaign.
Alexandra Stanton (Medfield, Mass.) competed in the 400-meter hurdles and finished eighth in her heat with a time of 1:00.93.
