PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Courtland Clavette (Asheville, N.C.) and freshman Ned Willig (Phoenixville, Pa.) of the Brown men's track & field team, and senior Olivia Mickle (Sacramento, Calif.) and freshman Kebbeh Darpolor (Pecos, Texas) on the women's side, recently swept the Hepstrack.com weekly awards after a successful start to the outdoor season.
Clavette was named men's athlete of the week after he had a huge improvement in the discus throw at the Tufts' Snowflake Classic, flinging it 57.04 meters (187-2). The throw was a personal best by about 15 feet, breaking the school record and landing into the Heps' all-time top 10.
Willig earned men's rookie of the week honors after a great showing at the Stanford Invitational over the weekend. He ran 1:50.20 in the 800-meter run (No. 2 in Ivy League this year) and 3:45.53 in the 1,500 (No. 1 in Ivy). Both marks are among the all-time top 10 for the Bears.
On the women's side, Mickle claimed athlete of the week honors following a strong showing at the Stanford Invitational. She won the second section in a school-record 33:52.49, pulling away from the field midway through. Her time, just outside the all-time Heps' top 10, would have beaten a number of runners in the first second.
Darpolor, who was named the women's rookie of the week, won the discus throw at the Snowflake Classic with a heave of 50.26 meters (164-11). Her toss is good for fifth all-time in the Ivy League as well as second at Brown.
The Bears return to action April 4-5 for the UConn decathlon in Storrs, Conn.
