Bloomington, IND- Brown University track & field standouts Brynn Smith and Craig Kinsley advanced out of the NCAA East Regionals this past weekend and will head to the NCAA Championships meet hosted at Drake University from June 8-11.
Smith will represent the Bears in the hammer throw after earning fifth place in flight three preliminaries with a 199-01 distance. Kinsley claimed his flight's javelin championships with a throw of 242-10, defeating everyone in the other two flights as well.
In the final day of the Regionals, freshman John Spooney qualified to the quarterfinals of the 200m dash finishing seventh in his heat with a time of 21.44 seconds. Also competing on Saturday was Brown's Heidi Caldwell in the 5,000m run, who finished 20th in her heat with a 17:04.88.
Erik Berg advanced to the quarterfinals of the 1500 with a stellar final 100m to place fourth in his heat with a time of 3:50.21. He went on to finish in seventh in heat two in the quarters with a 3:49.39. Also, Dan Lowry ran the 5k and placed 19th in the prelims with a 14:48.37.
