Two Qualify to Finals after First Day of NCAA Regionals

Bloomington, IND- Just one day into the 2011 Outdoor NCAA Division I Track & Field East Preliminary meet, Brown's Craig Kinsley and Brynn Smith have already qualified into the finals of their respective events.

Kinsley had a big day for the Bears' squad and picked up the javelin title in the preliminary round with a distance of 242-10. He defeated Georgia's second-place finisher Brian Moore by two-feet, who tossed a 240-03.

Brynn Smith earned fifth place in the hammer throw on Thursday tossing a 199-01 for the Bears to qualify into the finals. Virginia Tech's Dorotea Habazin finished in first with a distance of 221-06, while Western Kentucky's Laura Igaune came in second with a 209-08.

Sophomore Erik Berg advances to the quarterfinals in the 1,500m run with a time of 3:50.21 finishing in 15th place overall and fourth in his heat. The winner, Butler senior Kris Gauson, crossed the line with a 3:48.38.

Also competing in the hammer throw was sophomore Lacey Craker. Craker threw a solid 188-06 to place 15th overall, however, she did not qualify to the finals.

On the track, Kesley Ramsey ran the 1,500m and earned 37th place with a time of 4:34.60, and Samantha Adelberg finished in eighth place in heat 2 preliminaries with a 2:18.24.
