Providence, RI- Senior Danielle Grunloh (Effingham, IL) and junior Craig Kinsley (Fairfield, CT) were recently named USTFCCCA Division I Northeast Region Field Athletes of the Year. Both will be competing in the 2010 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships from June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore.
Gruhloh will be making her first appearance at the NCAA Championships next week and has been a strong force for the women's squad all season. Grunloh earned eighth place in the shot put at the NCAA Championship East Preliminary Round with a throw reaching 52-10, and she also captured First Team All-Ivy honors in the shot put at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championship after her 53-03.75 throw broke set a new meet record. She went on to earn the shot put title at the ECAC Championship to help guide the Bears to a third-place finish in the 49-team field, and was also the runner-up in the discus throw with a mark of 157-05.
"The transformation Danielle has made as an athlete and competitor over the last four years is nothing short of extraordinary," said Interim Track & Field Coach Michelle Eisenreich. "The success she's had is credit to her hard work and determination."
A 2009 All-American in the javelin, Kinsley has had an outstanding 2010 season for the Brown Track & Field team. He showed his dominance last week at the NCAA Championship East Preliminary Round when he won the javelin title with a 238-7 toss. He also earned First Team All-Ivy honors after his javelin throw of 229-10 blew by the competition at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championship in early May.
"Craig is having a terrific season and is undefeated with only the Nationals remaining," said Eisenreich. "After an outstanding year of training, he will look to improve upon his third place finish at the 2009 Championship."
