PROVIDENCE, RI - Senior Michelle Pautler (Kamuela, HI) picked up a three-set win at #1 singles to clinch a 4-3 victory over Harvard as the Brown women's tennis team (9-11, 4-3) won its fourth straight match, while posting a winning record in the Ivy League for the first time since 2003 when Brown also finished with a 4-3 mark.
The Bears and the Crimson split the first two doubles matches to finish, as Harvard earned an 8-3 win at #1 and junior Kelley Kirkpatrick (Villanova, PA) and freshman Emily Ellis (Dallas, TX) picked up an 8-4 win at #3. But Harvard was able to go up 1-0 with a 9-7 win at #2 doubles.
Freshman Tanja Vucetic (Aventura, FL) then tied the match at 1-1 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at #6 singles. The Crimson went up 2-1 with a win at #2 singles, but sophomore Sara Mansur (Houston, TX) tied the match at 2-2 when her opponent retired with Mansur having won the first set, 7-5, and leading the second, 3-0.
Ellis won her match at #5 singles, 6-3, 6-4, to give Brown its first lead of the afternoon, 3-2, before Pautler finished her match at #1 to give Brown the four points needed for the win. After losing the first set, 6-4, Pautler won the second, 7-5, before cruising in the third, 6-1.
