Women's Tennis Competes at 2004 Brown Invitational

The Brown women's tennis team competed in day one of the 2004 Brown Invitational and several Bears have moved on in their respective brackets. Following are results from the first day of competition.
Leading the Bears was senior Alex Arlak (Leonia, NJ), who advanced to the semifinals in flight "A" singles with a 6-4, 2-1 (ret) victory. In flight "B" singles, sophomore Amanda Saiontz (Miami, FL) defeated her opponent, 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the semifinals, while sophomore Michelle Pautler (Kamuela, HI) has advanced to the semifinals of flight "C" singles with a 6-1 (ret) victory. Also in flight "C", sophomore Daisy Ames (Atlanta, GA) earned a 6-2, 6-4 win to advance. Freshman Kelley Kirkpatrick (Villanova, PA) won her match in flight "D" singles to advance, winning 6-4, 6-2. Lastly, in flight "E" singles, freshman Meredith Woodhouse (Wayzata, MN) earned a 6-3, 3-3 (ret) win in her match.
In doubles action, the duo of Pautler and Saiontz has advanced to the finals of flight "A" with an 8-5 win in their match. Arlak and Ames dropped their first match, but won in the consolation round 8-5. They will compete for fifth place in flight "A". Kirkpatrick and Woodhouse dropped both of their matches in flight "B", but they will compete for seventh place in that doubles flight.
The Bears continue action in the Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
