The Brown women's tennis team (9-9, 1-3) split weekend decisions at Columbia (W, 5-2) and Cornell (L, 5-2). Freshman Daisy Ames (Atlanta, GA) helped to lead the Bears, winning her singles matches against both the Lions and the Big Red.
Against Columbia, Brown won the doubles point, picking up a win at #1 doubles and #2 doubles. Freshman Michelle Pautler (Kamuela, HI) and senior Victoria Beck (Wellington, New Zealand) combined for an 8-5 win at #1, while juniors Alex Arlak (Leonia, NJ) and Kerry Meath (St. Paul, MN) picked up an 8-5 win at #2. In singles action, the Bears lost the first two matches, but won at #3-#6 for the 5-2 win. Beck won at #3 (6-4, 6-4), while freshman Amanda Saiontz (Miami, FL) won at #4 (6-4, 3-6, 6-2). Pautler picked up a win at #5 (4-6, 6-4, 6-2), and Ames won her match at #6 (6-1, 6-3).
The next day against Cornell, Arlak and Ames each won their singles matches at #1 and #6, respectively. Arlak picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win, while Ames earned a 4-6, 6-3, 10-2 win. In doubles action, the duo of Arlak and Meath earned an 8-6 win at #2.
The Bears continue action on Tuesday, April 20, when they travel to Yale for a 2:00 p.m. match.
