Kirkpatrick's Win at #6 Singles Clinches 4-3 Victory over UC Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, CA - The Brown women's tennis team (9-4) won its third straight 4-3 match, edging UC Santa Barbara, 4-3, on Friday afternoon at UCSB's Rob Gym Courts. En route to the victory, the Bears won the third and decisive set in all four Brown singles wins.

The Gauchos went up 1-0, winning the doubles point with victories at #2 and #3 doubles. Brown's #1 team of senior Alex Arlak (Leonia, NJ) and sophomore Daisy Ames (Atlanta, GA) picked up an 8-5 win in doubles action for the Bears.

The Gauchos took a 2-0 lead with a win at #1 singles, however freshman Anita Ivancevic (Delray Beach, FL) earned Brown's first point with a 0-6, 6-1, 6-0 win at #4. The Bears evened the score at 2-2 with freshman Ashley Pariser's (Alexandria, VA) win at #5 singles (6-3, 4-6, 6-0). Pariser is now 9-1 in singles action for the season.

Brown then took a 3-2 lead with Ames' win at #3 singles (1-6, 6-3, 6-2), but UCSB tied the match 3-3 with a victory at #2 singles.

The battle for the match took place at #6 singles where freshman Kelley Kirkpatrick (Villanova, PA) picked up a 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 win for the match.

Brown returns to Providence, before hitting the road again next weekend when they travel to Princeton for the Bears' 2005 Ivy opener on April 8, at 2:00 p.m.
