The Brown women's tennis team (7-3) picked up a commanding 6-1 win over Idaho State in its first match of the UC Irvine Invitational on Sunday, March 28. The Bears won all but one of the five singles matches in straight sets, and claimed the doubles point, winning all three matches, including two 8-1 decisions.
In doubles action, it was junior Kerry Meath (St. Paul, MN) and senior Victoria Beck (Wellington, New Zealand) leading the way with a 9-8 (4) win at #1. Freshman Michelle Pautler (Kamuela, HI) and junior Alex Arlak (Leonia, NJ) picked up an 8-1 win at #2, while freshman Daisy Ames (Atlanta, GA) and freshman Amanda Saiontz (Miami, FL) earned an 8-1 win at #3.
In singles action, Arlak was Brown's top competitor, winning 6-3, 6-0, at the #1 spot. Meath earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at #2, while Beck picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #3. Saiontz earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at #4, while Ames pulled out a three-set win at #5 (6-7, 6-1, 10-7). The only match Brown lost was at #6, where Pautler did not compete due to an injury.
The Bears continue action at the UC Irvine Tournament on Monday, March 29, when they face Portland.
