The Brown women's tennis team brought its record to 11-5, defeating Loyola Marymount, 4-3, but falling to Long Beach State, 5-2, to finish with a 3-1 record in California.
In the win over Loyola Marymount, Brown lost all three doubles matches, but won four of six singles contests to take the 4-3 victory. Junior Victoria Beck (Wellington, New Zealand) led the Bears with a win at #3 (6-1, 6-3). The other Brown winners were sophomore Alex Arlak (Leonia, NJ) at #4 (6-3, 3-6, 6-1), freshman Kimberly Singer (Newport Beach, CA) at #5 (6-2, 6-0), and freshman Stephanie Falconi (New York, NY) at #6 (6-7, 6-0, 6-2). In the loss to Long Beach State, freshman Yelena Klurfeld (Brooklyn, NY), who competed at #2 singles, and Singer, who played at #5, were the winners for Brown.
The Bears continue action on Friday, April 4, hosting Harvard in their Ivy League opener at 2:00 p.m.
