DAVIDSON, NC - The Brown women's tennis team (13-2) won its ninth straight match on Monday afternoon, cruising to a 6-1 victory over Davidson (5-8) to open its three-match spring break trip. The Bears swept the doubles point to go ahead, 1-0, and then earned wins in five of the six singles matches, four of them in straight sets, to take the 6-1 victory.
In doubles action, the team of sophomore Bianca Aboubakare (Orange, CA) and freshman Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL) coasted to an 8-0 win at #1, while the team of juniors Emily Ellis (Fort Worth, TX) and Kathrin Sorokko (Douglaston, NY) picked up an 8-4 win at #3. The team of senior Sara Mansur (Houston, TX) and freshman Carissa Aboubakare (Orange, CA), who recently entered the national doubles rankings at #64, earned an 8-5 win at #2.
In singles action, the Bears took four of their five wins in straight sets, as Bianca Aboubakare won, 6-3, 6-4 at #1, Herzberg won, 6-1, 6-3, at #2, Carissa Aboubakare won, 6-2, 6-2, at #5, and freshman Julie Flanzer (Highland Park, IL) won, 6-3, 6-2 at #6 singles. The Bears' fifth singles win came at #4, where Mansur earned a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory.
