Women's Tennis Drops Two Close Decisions in Virginia

The women's tennis team competed at Old Dominion and Richmond over the weekend, dropping both matches by the same 4-3 score.

Against Old Dominion, Brown lost all three doubles matches, as Old Dominion claimed the doubles point before taking the #1 and #3 singles in straight sets. Sophomore Kerry Meath (St. Paul, MN) earned Brown's first win, at #4 singles (6-0, 6-4), while freshman Stephanie Falconi (New York, NY) won at #6 singles in straight sets as well (6-4, 6-3). Freshman Kim Singer (Newport Beach, CA) picked up a win at #5 singles (4-6, 6-0, 6-3) as the teams were tied at 3-3. Freshman Yelena Klurfeld (Brooklyn, NY) fought hard in the deciding match, but fell in three sets (2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-0).

The next day, the Bears faced Richmond and fell to the Spiders, again dropping all three doubles matches. Meath and Singer each won their matches at #3 (7-5, 6-3) and at #4 (7-6 (9), 6-2), respectively, while senior Caroline Casey (Atlanta, GA) picked up a 6-4, 7-5 win at #6 singles.

Brown continues action on Sunday, March 16, hosting Boston College in the Pizzitola Center at 12:00 noon.
