Bears Defeat Colgate, 7-0, in First Action Since November

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown women's tennis team (1-0) opened its 2005 season with a 7-0 victory over visiting Colgate on Saturday afternoon at the Pizzitola Center. The match was the Bears' first action since competing at the Dartmouth Invitational in early November.

Brown opened the match, taking the doubles point with senior Alex Arlak (Leonia, NJ) and freshman Anita Ivancevic (Delray Beach, FL) earning an 8-0 win at #2, and freshmen Ashley Pariser (Alexandria, VA) and Kelley Kirkpatrick (Villanova, PA) earning an 8-1 win at #3.

Arlak led the way in singles, winning at #1, 6-0, 6-2, while Ivancevic earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at #2. Sophomore Amanda Saiontz (Miami, FL) posted a 6-3 (7-6 (4) win at #3, while classmate Michelle Pautler (Kamuela, HI) earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at #4. Brown's last two matches were won by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores, with sophomore Daisy Ames (Atlanta, GA) winning at #5, and Pariser winning at #6.

The Bears continue action next weekend when they travel to New York to face Syracuse on Sunday, February 13, at 11:00 a.m.
