Women’s Tennis Opens Ivy League Play with a 4-3 Win Over Yale

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's tennis team defeated Yale, 4-3, on Sunday at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Yale captured the doubles point but Brown would win four singles matches to take the Ivy League win.

Senior Dayna Lord (Bloomfield, Conn.) and junior Alyza Benotto (Los Angeles, Calif.) registered a 6-3 win in first doubles but Yale would record victories in second and third doubles to open the match with a 1-0 advantage.

Lord started singles play with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the second spot to tie the match. After the Bulldogs picked up a win in first singles, junior Maddie Stearns (Short Hills, N.J.) tied the match again with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 victory in third singles. Freshman Devon Jack (San Marino, Calif.) next posted a victory in fourth singles for Brown's first lead of the match (3-2). Yale would then knot the match with a win in fifth singles. Sophomore Taylor Cosme (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) secured the victory for the Bears with a 6-1, 6-2 performance in sixth singles.

The Bears will host another Ivy League match on Friday, April 7 versus Harvard before traveling to Dartmouth on Sunday, April 9. The match against the Crimson will begin at 2:00 p.m. while the contest against the Big Green will start at 12:00 p.m.
