#44 Bears Post Wins over Akron (4-3) and Rhode Island (7-0)

PROVIDENCE, RI – The 44th-ranked Brown women's tennis team (9-3) picked up a pair of wins on Sunday, defeating Akron (12-1), 4-3, and then closing out the day with a 7-0 win over in-state rival Rhode Island. Akron, which had upset #53 Dartmouth, 6-1, on Friday, dropped its first match of the year, as it had won 12 straight contests to open the season. Junior Misia Krasowski (Highland Park, IL) and sophomore Ariel Caldwell (Atlanta, GA) led the Bears with three wins each, as the duo combined for a doubles win against both opponents and each won a singles match with Krasowski winning at #1 against Akron and Caldwell winning at #3 against URI.

Against the Zips, Akron took a 1-0 lead by earning doubles wins at #1 and #3. The Bears came back to win four singles matches and claim the narrow victory. In addition to Krasowski's win at #1, other winners included sophomore Jessica Harrow (La Crescenta, CA) at #3, senior Julie Flanzer (Deerfield, IL) at #5, and freshman Laura Wiley (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) at #6.

Against the Rams, Brown swept the doubles point with Caldwell and Krasowski winning at #1, 8-0. Senior Carissa Aboubakare (Orange, CA) and freshman Sarah Kandath (Gansevoort, NY) earned an 8-1 win at #2 doubles, while senior Jennifer Lee (Sudbury, MA) and freshman Nimita Uberoi (Boca Raton, FL) posted an 8-3 win at #3.

In singles action, Harrow led the Bears with a win at #1, while Flanzer picked up a win at the #2 position. Caldwell earned a win at #3, while Wiley won at #4. Freshman Nikita Uberoi (Boca Raton, FL) earned a win at #5, while Aboubakare closed out the match with a win at #6.

The Bears continue action on Sunday, March 4th, when they travel to Boston University for a 1:00 p.m. match.
