Bears Win Fifth Straight, 5-2 over Stony Brook

PROVIDENCE, RI - The 63rd-ranked Brown women's tennis team (12-3) earned its fifth straight win on Tuesday afternoon, 5-2 over Stony Brook. Brown claimed the doubles point with wins at #1 and #3 and then went on to win the top four singles matches to post the victory. Sophomore Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL) and junior Bianca Aboubakare (Orange, CA) led the Bears with wins at #1 and #2 singles, respectively, and a win at #1 doubles.

Brown started doubles competition with Herzberg and Aboubakare winning, 8-1, at #1. After Stony Brook tied the doubles score at 1-1 with a win at #2 doubles, senior Emily Ellis (Forth Worth, TX) and junior Marisa Schonfeld (Washington, DC) earned the point for Brown with an 8-4 victory at #3.

Herzberg dropped just one game at #1 singles, putting Brown up, 2-0, with a 6-0, 6-1 win, while Aboubakare gave Brown a 3-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-1 win at #2. Freshman Misia Krasowski (Deerfield, IL) clinched the victory for the Bears with her win at #3 singles. After winning a close first set, 7-6 (5), Krasowski put the match away with a 6-1 win in the second set. Sophomore Julie Flanzer (Highland Park, IL) earned Brown's final point of the day, winning 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (7) at #4 singles.

The Bears are away next week for a pair of matches against teams ranked in the national top-50. Brown plays at #42 FIU on Tuesday, March 30th and then at #11 Miami on Wednesday, March 31.
