PROVIDENCE, RI - Junior Bianca Aboubakare (Orange, CA) and sophomore Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL), the Bears' top two singles players and top doubles team, represent Brown in the first ITA rankings of the season. The Bears, who are ranked 63rd in the country, join Ivy foes Princeton (44), Yale (48), and Harvard (65) among teams ranked among the nation's best.
Herzberg leads Brown, earning a Northeast Regional singles ranking of #2 and a National singles ranking of #89. Aboubakare is ranked 16th in the region in singles. Overall, eight Ivy League student-athletes are ranked nationally in singles with Herzberg the fourth-highest among them.
In doubles action, the duo, which claimed the ITA Northeast Regional Doubles Title this past fall, is the top-ranked team in the region. They are also ranked #29 in the nation and are one of three doubles teams from within the Ivy League to earn a national ranking.
Brown opens the 2010 spring schedule January 29-31 when it travels to Baylor to participate in the ITA Kick-off Weekend. Along with Brown and the host Baylor Bears, Nevada and Harvard will also be participating at Baylor. Brown and #67 Nevada are scheduled to meet in the first round at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 29th. The winner will face the winner of the Baylor-Harvard match on Saturday at 4:00 p.m., while the loser with face the loser of the Baylor-Harvard match on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
