Bears Fall to Harvard, 179.5-115.5

CAMBRIDGE, MA - The Brown women's swimming and diving team (1-1, 0-1) traveled up I-95 to take on the Harvard Crimson in its 2005-2006 Ivy opener. The Bears came away with some promising results, but were not able to hold off the Crimson, who won the meet with a score of 179.5 to Brown's 115.5.

The Bears started the meet with a second place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, with the team of junior Emily Brush (Duxbury, MA), sophomore Aly Wyatt (Ypsilanti, MI), senior Elizabeth Wong (Santa Monica, CA), and senior Eileen Robinson (Harbour Grace, NF) earning a time of 1:47.61. Sophomore Dillon Delaney (West Barnstable, MA) was Brown's top finisher in the 1000 Free, earning a time of 10:24.51, good for third, while junior Becky Kowalsky (Ft. Myers, FL) posted a third place finish in the 200 Free with a time of 1:55.89, just .05 off of second place.

Brush was the Bears' top finisher in the 100 Back, posting a time of 1:00.16 to earn fourth place, while Wyatt swam a time of 1:06.91 in the 100 Breast, good for third. Junior Meredith Cocco (Lafayette Hill, PA) earned second place in the 200 Fly, touching the wall in 2:04.17, while Robinson tied for first place in the 50 Free with a time of 24.28.

In the 1-Meter Dive, senior Jessica Larson (Wayland, MA) won the event for the second straight meet, notching a score of 274.06. Junior Dana Meadow (Chicago, IL) took fourth with a score of 238.20.

The Bears had a two-three finish in the 100 Free, with Robinson taking second with a time of 52.75. Freshman Sarah Goodman (Philadelphia, PA) earned third place with a time of 54.76. Brush was Brown's top finisher in the 200 Back, posting a time of 2:10.04 to take fourth, while Wyatt swam a time of 2:25.70 in the 200 Breast to finish in third in that event.

Freshman Ainsley McFadgen (Glace Bay, NS) took third in the 500 Free, swimming a time of 5:10.25, while Wong and Cocco earned a two-three finish in the 100 Fly, with times of 57.81 and 58.46, respectively.

In the 3-Meter Dive, Larson again dominated, winning the event for the second straight meet with a score of 299.10, nearly 18 more points than the second place finisher.

Brown closed out the meet with wins in the final two events, as Cocco won the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.93, while the team of Robinson, Goodman, Wong, and Kowalski won the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:33.14.

The Bears return to action Sunday, November 13, when they host Dartmouth in a 12:00 noon Ivy League meet.
