NASSAU, NY - The Brown women's swimming and diving team fell into sixth place after the second day of competition at the 2009 Ivy Championships. Brown had three swimmers in the "A" final for their respective events, but are over 100 points out of fifth place after two days. Harvard still leads the field with 1068 points, while Princeton sits in second with 865. Yale (675), Penn (621), and Columbia (571.5) occupy the middle three positions, while Dartmouth (394) and Cornell (324) round out the field in seventh and eighth.
Brown began day two with an eighth place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, as the team of junior Bridget Ballard (Los Angeles, CA), freshman Jamie Firth (Felton, CA), sophomore Natascha Mangan (Keizer, OR), and senior Sarah Goodman (Philadelphia, PA) posted a time of 1:46.40.
Senior Ainsley McFadgen (Glace Bay, NS) led Brown in the 1000 Free, earning eighth place with a time of 10:08.59, as the only Bear to swim that event.
Sophomore Kelley Wisinger (Warren, NJ) had Brown's top finish in the 400 IM, clocking in at 4:27.13 to finish in 10th. Junior Bailey Langner (Martinez, CA) was also in the "B" final, finishing in 15th with a time of 4:33.84.
Mangan then earned Brown's top finish of the day, placing seventh in the 100 Fly with a time of 56.55. Freshman Allyson Schumacher (Des Moines, WA) followed that with an eighth place finish in the 200 Free, posting a time of 1:51.42
Firth led Brown in the 100 Breast, earning 21st with a time of 1:07.38, while Ballard led the Bears in the 100 Back, earning 13th with a time of 57.56. Goodman was right behind Ballard in 14th with a time of 57.72.
Brown closed day two with a fifth place finish in the 800 Free Relay, as the team of Schumacher, McFadgen, freshman Kristen Caldarella (Orwigsburg, PA), and sophomore Stephanie Pollard (Victoria, BC) posted a time of 7:31.69.
