PRINCETON, NJ - The Brown women's swimming and diving team is in sixth place after the second day of competition at the 2007 Ivy Championships. The Bears have 556 points, 34 behind fifth-place Columbia. Princeton leads the field with 1002 points, while Harvard is in second with 929.5. Yale sits in third with 770, while Penn is in fourth with 700. Dartmouth (441.5) and Cornell (243) round out the competition.
Brown took fifth in the first event of the day as the 200 medley relay team of senior Emily Brush (Duxbury, MA), junior Ally Wyatt (Ypsilanti, MI), senior Meredith Cocco (Lafayette Hill, PA), and senior Kathleyn Brandstetter (Riverside, CT) swam a time of 1:45.84.
Sophomore Ainsley McFadgen (Glace Bay, NS) finished in ninth in the 1000 free with a time of 10:13.23, while senior Lauren Harlow (Andover, MA) took 12th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:33.65. Senior Ashley Wallace (Chatham, NJ) led Brown in the 100 fly, placing 15th with a time of 58.65, while senior Becky Kowalsky (Fort Myers, FL) led the Bears in the 200 free with a time of 1:53.58, good for 12th.
Wyatt was the first swimmer to finish in the top-eight in an individual event on day two, grabbing sixth in the 100 breast with a time of 1:05.38. Brush then took fifth in the 100 back with a time of 57.53 to lead Brown.
Next up was diving, where the Bears' top three divers failed to qualify for tomorrow's A-finals on the 3-meter. Senior Amy Latinen (Fenton, MI) took 12th with a score of 258.50 to lead Brown.
Brown's 800 free relay team of Kowalsky, McFadgen, Wyatt, and Brush closed the day with a sixth place finish, clocking in at 7:37.52.
The Bears conclude action at the 2007 Championships tomorrow with prelims beginning at 11:00 a.m. and finals slated to begin at 6:00 p.m. Events include the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, and 400 free relay.
