Bears Edged by Columbia, 157-143

NEW YORK, NY - The Brown women's swimming and diving team (2-3, 2-3) dropped a close, 157-143, decision to Columbia on Saturday afternoon in New York. The Bears picked up seven wins on the day, coming up just short against the Lions. Once again, freshman Allyson Schumacher (Des Moines, WA) led Brown with two individual wins.

Junior Katie Olko (Harrison, NY) opened the meet with a second place finish in the 3-Meter Dive, scoring a 235.96, while freshman Rebecca Tassell (Jupiter, FL) was third with a score of 234.90.

Brown's 200 Medley Relay team was third in the first swimming event, as the team of junior Bridget Ballard (Los Angeles, CA), freshman Jamie Firth (Felton, CA), sophomore Natascha Mangan (Keizer, OR), and sophomore Candice Sisouvanvieng-Kim (Albuquerque, NM) earned a time of 1:49.80.

Senior Ainsley McFadgen (Glace Bay, NS) picked up Brown's first win of the afternoon, earning a time of 10:20.32 in the 1000 Free, while Schumacher earned the Bears' second victory of the day, posting a time of 1:51.64 in the 200 Free. Freshman Kristen Caldarella (Orwigsburg, PA) was third in the event with a time of 1:56.25.

Ballard was Brown's top finisher in the 100 Back, earning second with a time of 59.13, while junior Bailey Langner (Martinez, CA) led the Bears in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:08.60, good for third.

Mangan earned another victory for Brown, posting a time of 2:06.61 in the 200 Fly, while Sisouvanvieng-Kim claimed first place in the 50 Free with a time of 24.13.

The Bears earned a 1-2-3 sweep in the 1-Meter Dive, as Olko won with a score of 236.31. Tassell came in second with a score of 233.33, while senior Jessica Williams (McLean, VA) was third with a score of 226.12.

Schumacher took second in the 100 Free, posting a time of 52.88 to lead Brown, while Sisouvanvieng-Kim was third with a time of 53.04. The Bears were second and third in the next event as well, the 200 Back, as sophomore Kelley Wisinger (Warren, NJ) swam a time of 2:05.82 and Ballard earned a time of 2:09.58.

Langner led the Bears in the 200 Breast, claiming second with a time of 2:26.36, before Schumacher led a 1-2 finish in the 500 Free with a time of 4:58.17. McFadgen was second in the event, touching the wall in 5:02.96.

Mangan earned a time of 57.54 to take second in the 100 Fly, while Wisinger earned second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:10.59. Mangan was third in the event, clocking in at 2:12.42. The Bears closed the meet with a first place finish in the 400 Free Relay, as the team of Sisouvanvieng-Kim, Caldarella, sophomore Stephanie Pollard (Victoria, BC), and Schumacher earned a time of 3:30.70.
